Master Mechanic
Maintenance of Equipment Department
Position Summary:
Direct the activities of the General Foreman and subordinate line supervision in maintenance, inspection, running repair and car cleaning. Handle all personnel, administrative and labor matters within area of jurisdiction, assessing discipline and grievances. Coordinate budget activities and ensure position vacancies are filled. Assist in long range planning activities for capital projects, facilities, machinery and materials. May be rotated through Central Control, MU territory, diesel territory, car shop, support shop, field technical support and car cleaning sections.
Minimum Requirements:
- Progressively responsible mechanical equipment related experience with responsibility for managing employees (represented and management) in a large, complex, unionized organization.
- Prior experience managing a function/projects with budget management/development responsibility.
- Strong administrative, planning, scheduling and computer skills.
- Experience handling related labor and personnel issues, evaluating the performance of employees, and assessing discipline when necessary.
- Solid technical (mechanical) and practical experience including diesel, MU equipment, familiarity with FRA and other regulations relating to car maintenance and maintenance operations.
- Demonstrated effective communications and human relation skills, with ability to professionally deal with all levels of the organization.
- Effective management, leadership, problem-solving, decision making, and judgment skills.
Preferred/Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
