As of March 1, 2005, tickets purchased on the train will cost $4.75-$5.50 more
than tickets bought before boarding at a Ticket Window or Ticket Machine. Customers
will save money by purchasing tickets prior to boarding the train at Ticket Windows,
Ticket Machines or through WebTicket. The higher onboard fare does not apply
to Senior Citizens, people with disabilities or Medicare Customers.

The discount on the monthly ticket for Mail&Ride subscribers who also purchase
an unlimited monthly MetroCard will be 5% as of March 1. Mail&Ride customers
who choose either the $0 or $40 MetroCard option will still receive a 2% discount
on their LIRR monthly fare. The unlimited monthly MetroCard will cost $76 as
of March 1, 2005. The price of the $40 MetroCard option will not change.
We'd like to take this opportunity to remind you of the following purchasing
options:
- The best and most cost-effective way to buy tickets is by purchasing multiple ride tickets (such as monthly, weekly, or ten-trip tickets) in advance of your trip.
- You can buy tickets at one of our ticket machines, at your ticket office, or on our web site. You can use cash or a major credit/debit card at the ticket machine, and, when purchasing at the ticket office, cash, personal check or transit voucher. Machines return up to $17.75 in change (coins).
- Buy your already discounted monthly ticket online through WebTicket and save an additional 2 percent. Buy any ticket other than a monthly online through WebTicket and save 5 percent. Use any major credit card to make your purchase. Postage is free and tickets arrive three to five business days after you place your order.
- Join Mail&Ride, our monthly ticket-by-mail subscription service, and save 2 percent on Monthly tickets. Save 5 percent when you purchase your Monthly ticket with a monthly unlimited MetroCard. You can manage your account online, pay by credit/debit card, personal check, or transit voucher.
- You can save hundreds of dollars a year by having a portion of your pre-tax salary set aside for commutation costs. Ask your Human Resources Department if your company offers tax-free transit fare programs.
