Current Fare Information

New MTA Long Island Rail Road fares will go onto effect on March 1, and will affect most ticket types. Exact increases vary depending on ticket type.

You can access new ticket prices via our new fare tables. Details are also available in our Tickets and Fares brochures. Copies are available at LIRR terminals and stations. In addition, customers should note the following changes:

Buy Before Boarding - Save Money on Tickets
As of March 1, 2005, tickets purchased on the train will cost $4.75-$5.50 more than tickets bought before boarding at a Ticket Window or Ticket Machine. Customers will save money by purchasing tickets prior to boarding the train at Ticket Windows, Ticket Machines or through WebTicket. The higher onboard fare does not apply to Senior Citizens, people with disabilities or Medicare Customers.

Mail&Ride
The discount on the monthly ticket for Mail&Ride subscribers who also purchase an unlimited monthly MetroCard will be 5% as of March 1. Mail&Ride customers who choose either the $0 or $40 MetroCard option will still receive a 2% discount on their LIRR monthly fare. The unlimited monthly MetroCard will cost $76 as of March 1, 2005. The price of the $40 MetroCard option will not change.
