Ticket Machines
Just touch the screen to begin your transaction. It’s fast and easy! The LIRR has three types of ticket machines available at stations:
1. GRAY Full-Service "Tickets" machines offer:
- All LIRR ticket types*
- MetroCards options including:
- Separate $20 MetroCard ($24 value)
- $4 MetroCard option for Round Trip rail tickets
- $20 MetroCard ($24 value) option for Weekly rail tickets - $40 MetroCard ($44 value) option for Monthly rail tickets
2. RED "Daily Tickets" machines offer:
- One Way & Round Trip tickets
- $20 MetroCards ($24 value)
Both of these machine types accept:
- Cash
- Bills: $50, $20, $10, $5, and $1 bills
- Coin: Quarters, dimes, nickels and dollar coins
- Change: Returns up to $17.75 in coin change
- Credit or ATM/Debit Cards including MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Novus/Discover and all bank cards.
3. BLUE "Credit/Debit" machines offer:
- All LIRR ticket types*
- MetroCard options including:
- Separate $20 MetroCard ($24 value)
- $4 MetroCard option for Round Trip rail tickets
- $20 MetroCard ($24 value) option for Weekly rail tickets - $40 MetroCard ($44 value) option for Monthly rail tickets
These machines accept only Credit or ATM/Debit Cards including MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Novus/Discover and all bank cards.
Save Money - Buy tickets before boarding.
Special Features
- Screen instructions are available in Spanish and two other languages. Select your foreign language choice on the bottom of the first screen.
- An audio feature, in English, is available for the visually impaired. A speaker is provided on the machine or you can plug in your own headset.
Call toll free: (877) LIRR TSM if you have any questions, comments or problems. Be sure to give the machine ID number, located on the front of the machine below the touch-screen.
*Monthly tickets are sold starting the 20th of the previous month. (For example, on May 20th you can buy June’s ticket.) Weekly tickets are good for unlimited rides from Saturday to Friday and are available for sale on Wednesdays for the next week. Monthly school and charity tickets are obtained at LIRR ticket offices only. Reservations are required for Hamptons Reserve and Group tickets.
