SLEEPY LESTER was born in Northeast Ohio on the banks of Lake Erie. A graduate fellowship at Pratt Institute brought Lester to New York City in 1962 to study painting. A few years later, he developed a passion for the harmonica. Lester has continued to paint and play for the past forty years, performing at local clubs with a regular bimonthly gig at the Greenwich Village Bistro on Carmine Street. Through MUNY, he feels a kinship with the people in his audience. "New Yorkers have big hearts and I am inspired by the generosity and appreciation of everyday folks, the "invisible pedestrians." Recently, Sleepy Lester was interviewed by The New Yorker and Channel 26 in New York City with a live chromatic harmonica performance.
